Quirky Classics at the Carolina Theater
The Carolina Theater is the perfect setting for watching classic movies, built in the 1920s and recently restored it captures the beauty and excitement that used to go hand in hand with going to the movies. The Theater hosts a wide variety of cinema and live performances these days, but this September you won’t want to miss their Retroclassics Film Series featuring flicks such as Creature from the Black Lagoon and the Bride of Frankenstein. If you’re looking for something a little more quirky you may be interested in their Sword of the Groovy Movie Series which includes Conan the Barbarian and Excalibur.
Local History at Duke Homestead
On September 8th the Duke Homestead hosts their Tobacco Harvest and Hornworm Festival, where visitors can watch tobacco harvest, stringing, and curing demonstrations as well as a live tobacco auction. There will also be musical entertainment, craft vendors, and children’s activities. Admission is free.
